Brief History of Credit Cards

Brief History of Credit Cards

The Airone has a monthly report about fifteen inventions of which we could not do without. Among these, the credit card: "Today, this small piece of plastic has become an object of which we cannot do without, since the use of cash in commercial transactions is increasingly discouraged to avoid payments in black and resulting in an image similar those involved in tax evasion." The affirmation of the credit card was, however, very slow and gradual. In 1949, the American Frank McNamara gave life to the Diners Club, along with some business colleagues. He distributed a hundred members of the first plastic cards that could be used instead of cash in just 40 restaurants. In 1951 he introduced the first real credit card bank, issued in New York by Franklin National Bank: it was a plastic card on which were inscribed the owner data. In 1958 American Express and Bankamericard were formed. MasterCharge appeared in 1968. In the early 70's Bankamericard became Visa and MasterCharge turned into MasterCharge. By the end of the decade, the cards were made of PVC and were equipped with a magnetic strip. And so I still today ", but are still evolving.
